The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has raised significant alarms regarding the current humanitarian situation in Lebanon. Ugochi Daniels, the Deputy Director General for Operations at IOM, expressed deep concerns about the escalating needs of the population amidst the ongoing challenges in the region.
During a recent briefing, Daniels emphasized that while many Iranians face hardships, there is not yet a significant movement towards the European Union. “We are closely monitoring the situation, but at this moment, there is no large-scale exodus from Iran to European nations,” she stated. This insight underlines the complexities related to migration patterns, especially in light of Lebanon’s pressing humanitarian needs.
The IOM has been actively engaged in Lebanon, where the economic crisis has led to severe shortages of essential resources, affecting not only Lebanese citizens but also the influx of refugees from neighboring countries. Daniels highlighted that the agency is focusing on providing immediate assistance to vulnerable populations in the area, including those displaced by conflict.
